The jump rope material determines how the rope behaves when jumping. Each material swings differently (some faster, some slower). Depending on what you want to do and how much experience you already have, a different material may be more suitable for your jump rope.

Most jump ropes are made of one of the following materials:

  • hemp
    Cheap, light, but often of poor quality. Suitable if you are starting to jump rope and don't want to spend a lot on a jump rope.
  • wire
    Cheap and fast. But it hurts when it hits your legs. For advanced riders who want more speed.
  • steel
    High speed for professionals.
  • leather
  • rubber
  • plastic
  • Beads
